| My "Early" Years! When I began writing, it was mainly for magazines. My articles and short stories have appeared in: American Health, AudioFile, Baltimore Sun Magazine, Bazaar Gifts and Super Scraps, Bear Tracks, Campus Life, Childbirth Educator, Christian Living, County Lines, Dollstars, Dolphin Log, Ethicon's Point-of-View, Family Circle, Friends Journal, Good Bears of the World, Guideposts, Highlights for Children, Hiway, Kind, Lancaster Echoes, Medical Month, Mothering, Nursing, Nursing Life, On the Line, Once Upon A Time, Rejoice, Romance Writers Journal, Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Bulletin, Stickers and Stuff, Story Friends, Susquehanna, Teddy Bear and Friends, Teddy Bear Review, Teddy Tribune, Today, and Writer's Digest. Four articles or stories from this list have been anthologized in books: "Members of the Flock" (Guideposts) in "More Stories from Guideposts, Friendship At Its Best, Tyndale House, 1991; "Advice From The Experts" (Writer's Digest), "The Basics of Writing for Children," 1996; "Rare Hollywood Bears," (Teddy Bear and Friends), "The Best of Teddy Bear and Friends," 1992; and "R.R. Bear," (Good Bears of the World), "The Christian Family Christmas Book," Augsburg Publishing, 1987.
I also self published my "first book" in 1982, a 12-page paperback called "Tedwina," about an antique bear illustrated by now well-known teddy bear artist Lucy Rigg. And in 1983, my parents published a booklet I'd given them as a present, a collection of historical stories about Lancaster County's Hans Herr House where my very-very-great-great grandfather lived in the early 1700s. The five stories in that booklet included one original, as well as a reprint of a story published in "Rejoice," a story published in "Susquehanna," a story published in "Lancaster Echoes," and a story published in "Story Friends." "Herr-itage" is sold at the Hans Herr House which is a National Historic Site, open to the public.
