OK,
I'm no horse woman. But writing a book about horses got me out to meet
some. I really like them. Just not as much as dogs! |
I knew I wanted to be a writer in the 8th grade
when my Social Studies teacher handed out a mimeographed
sheet to everybody in the class and then walked up-and-down the aisles between
our desks, reading aloud my poem, "A House Divided Cannot
Stand."
Nobody knew who wrote it. But everybody was listening.

We live in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, in a pretty little brick house with a
picket fence (but it's not "a white picket fence," it's
pressure-treated lumber). Ephrata is in Lancaster County, popularly known as
"Pennsylvania Dutch Country" because of its Old Order Amish and
Mennonite sects who dress in an old-fashioned style and travel via
horse-and-buggy. There are lots of covered bridges and farms and produce stands
beside back country roads selling everything from quilts to red beet eggs.
